J.K Rowling is the first billionaire writer of the world. She became richer than the Queen of England just by writing novels. It didn’t happen overnight. 

She is a classic example for rags to riches success story. Penniless, recently divorced, raising a child on her own and suffering from depressions, she had to face countless challenges.

Twelve publishing houses rejected her original Harry Potter manuscripts. A small publisher Bloomsbury finally gave her a chance with a small advance. The publisher warned that there was no money in children’s books and hence she should get a day job for her livelihood.

Nobody could predict that it would become the bestselling book series in history. J.K. Rowling crossed net worth of more than 1 billion U.S Dollars in 2014. 

What if she stopped at the first or next rejection? What if she gave up by the devastating failures?

J.K Rowling succeeded because she applied the perseverance principle aptly described by Winston Churchill: “Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm."

When J.K Rowling spoke to the graduating class of Harvard, she didn’t talk about success. She talked about failures, her own in particular:

“I had failed on an epic scale. An exceptionally short-lived marriage had imploded, and I was jobless, a lone parent, and as poor as it is possible to be in modern Britain, without being homeless."

BARBER WHO OWNS A ROLLS ROYCE!

 
Bangalore resident Ramesh Babu runs the business of cutting and styling hair. He is a billionaire and owns a rent-a-car fleet of 67 alternative cars.

IN HIS SALON

At the Inner Space salon, near Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru, you will spot businessman G. Ramesh Babu talking to his clients and giving them new hairstyles. And this, he does everyday, even though he runs a successful business of renting out luxury cars.

 

TAXI BUSINESS

Ramesh started his taxi business in 2004 with a Maruti Omni van and today he owns 256 luxury cars, which includes a Rolls Royce, six BMWs, nine Mercedes, a Jaguar, three Audis and many more.

Amazingly, Ramesh charges Rs 75000 a day for the Rolls and his usual clients are corporate bigwigs and visiting Bollywood and Tollywood stars.

 “I started with renting out my cars to Intel and to other small clients locally. As it was going well, I took a brave step and bought my first E class Mercedes. This was because at that time there was no taxi rental service which rented out luxury cars, even for big delegates,” he says.

NO STOPPING

Since then, there has been no stopping Ramesh. From B-town stars to politicians, everyone has travelled in his cars. “I have had plenty of clients and thus, my cars have been used by many big names. From Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to Amitabh Bachchan to SRK, mostly everyone has been driven around in my cars.”

Ramesh, a +2 dropout, who later finished a diploma in Electronics from Industrial Training Institute, has been a humble man. Ramesh still goes to his barber shop every day as he doesn’t want to lose touch with his roots.

Being proactive is not a rocket science. It is something that can be learnt by anybody. Here are some tips which will make you a proactive person.

1. Remember the Big Picture 

To be proactive, you have to keep the big picture in your mind. Think about the big goal to be reached in your future career and write it down with specific time limit. There may be roadblocks. But you can win.

2. Befriend Proactive People

Being surrounded by proactive people helps you in many ways. They will make you aware of all opportunities and help you handle any problem.

3. Be a Firefighter 

A firefighter’s job is to put out a fire as quickly as possible. We have to think ahead before problems flare up. We should be prepared to jump to solve problems.

Being proactive is about taking responsibility for your life. You can't keep blaming everything on your parents or grandparents. Proactive people recognize that they are "response-able."

Your life doesn't just "happen." Whether you know it or not, it is being designed by you. The choices, after all, are yours. Start designing the most amazing life for yourself.
